So, while waiting for the WWP to get started, I looked over the cup scoring.
We will score in 10 sports for both men and women (because fencing will be moved to the men's side of the ledger - it goes to the gender where it leads to the highest point total for the school.)
Note: the first number is placement in the field. You'll notice the different weights that NACDA scoring structure gives sports based on the size of the championship field. So 14th place women's cross-country outscores 5th place field hockey.
Sorry for the formatting; doing all of the td and tr tags reminds me too much of my early days of Unix-based website editing in vi. Yay WYSIWYG! Though I'll probably end up doing it as the scoring changes over the next few weekends...
For Stanford thus far:
Women
Water Polo 1 100
Swimming 3 85
Soccer   3 83
Volleyball     3 83
Gymnastics 5 75
Indoor T+FÂ 8Â 70.5
Basketball     9 64
Cross Country  14  61.5
Field Hockey 5 60
Still in progress
Tennis minimum 64 (in the Sweet 16 of a 64-team field)
Golf minimum 50 (in the final 24 scored for a 64-team field)
Outdoor T+F
Womens Rowing
Women minimum 746 (current scores plus tennis minimum)
Men
Cross Country 2 90
Gymnastics 2 90
Swimming 6 73.5
Water Polo 3 72.5
Fencing   10 60
Soccer   17 50
Tennis   17 50
Football     26 45
Wrestling     35 38.5
Still scoring possibilities:
Golf (will score a minimum of 5 points by being in the field); Outdoor Track and Field
Mens minimum 574.5 (men's golf and T+F produce minimum 5 points, by golf's qualifying)
So minimum right now is 1320.5, if there is no displacement of women's teams by higher scorers, and if both of the men's teams don't score more than 5 points.
Women's golf will need to finish above 14 to displace field-hockey and add to Stanford's point total. Women's tennis will add to the point total with each victory.
Outdoor T+F and women's rowing should score. The question is will the men's T+F outscore golf (less likely) or wrestling (more likely) for the men (finishing in 35th of better - T+F currently ranked #25) to knock them out of the scoring. Or will T+F and Golf outscore and eliminate football from the scoring (above 29th).
And will women's T+F (currently ranked 13) or women's rowing (currently ranked 6th) finish well enough to displace lower scoring teams. But people who know more about T+F and rowing might want to chime in.
Trying to get my numbers out there before Terry corrects everything ;) ,
