Mays was the best all around player in MLB history
Williams was the best hitter in MLB history
If I were starting a team from scratch, give me Mays. He played every day, Koufax once every four days. If I had to select a pitcher, I would choose the 1968 version of Bob Gibson
My first professional game 1957 was at Seals Stadium - I still have the Lefty ODoul autograph (he managed the Seals that year) I got that day

Then there is this:Â .342/.474/.690/1,164. That is his CAREER slash line.
Unfortunately he has been caricatured as some fat guy that hit home runs. What Goodman did was criminal. Ruth could run a bit when he was young. And of course he was a great pitcher.
Again cant compare eras. But Ruth too often gets left out of the discussion.

This was posted on another thread which I cant seem to find. Its only happened once. Others have pitched eight innings of no-hit ball and lost. Others of had a no-hitter through nine only to lose it after nine. But only once has a guy pitched a nine inning no hitter and lost.
It was Ken Johnson with the colt 45. I will admit I dont remember him. But he had a fairly decent career over several years. 91 wins 102 losses pretty good ERA.
. He lost it in the ninth when he threw a ball away for a two base error. Another error in the inning the led to the winning run.

Which pitcher gave up the most home runs in a game, how many did he give up, and what is his connection to the SF Bay Area?
