Some more.

Name the most HRs one season by a pair of teammates
Bonus name the top 5 ?

What pitcher is currently 10 wins away from 250?

Only two players have 600 HRs, 3,000 hits and 2,000 RBIs.  Who are they ?  Bonus who might join them this season?

My guess would be:

1.  Barry Bonds & Jeff Kent.
2.  Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.
3.  Willie Mays & Willie McCovey
4.  Henry Aaron, Darrell Evans
5.  Sammy Sosa and whoever was #2 on the cubs.

Who is the only player that had 500 hits with four teams?

Bonus point - name the teams.

Who are the only four players that hit at least one HR before the age of 20 and one after the age of 40?

Robin Yount?

And the player with 500 hits for four teams (Astros, Mets, Expos and Tigers)

Rusty Staub.  The man with one of the best nicknames in the modern era.  Rest In Peace, Le Grand Orange........

That was a great question.  I looked it up and there were 17 players who had 500+ hits with three teams.

Mick,

I found it in Staub’s obituary.  I also thought it was a great bit of trivia...

I would have guessed Griffey Jr. as the teen and 40 HR hitter, but not sure he played in his 40s.

Rusty Staub. Great player. I don't know why a guy like him is not in the HOF and Richie Ashburn is.

Ashburn could run and play defense. Staub could hit.

Dom DiMaggio was better than both and he’s not in.

Bonds from 2000to 2004

00. .306/440/688/1127. 49 HR
01.  .328/515/863/1379. 73 HR
02.  370/582/799/1381. 46 HR
03.  341/529/749/1278. 45 HR
04.  362/609/812/1422. 45 HR (232 walks!)

Those are ridiculous numbers. Has to be the best 5 year stretch ever. I remember watching him in those years. He get maybe two pitches to hit a game max and he almost never missed them.  Yeah I know steroids.  But certainly the best hitter I ever saw. no one else came close. Mays is still the best all-around player I ever saw.

Bonds could have hit .400 a couple of times. He was that good. Would have had to sacrifice some HR’s.

Mays easily the best ever but Williams was the best hitter I saw.

Still, if I had to build a club for one season with guys in their prime year my first pick would be Koufax.

While I only saw Ashburn a couple of times later in his career he was a great defensive OFer and a 300 hitter.    He deserves the Hall

I’d take Auburn over the Professor

Phogge the Red Sox played an exhibition at Seals Stadium with 1955 or 56. I was there. You?

But would you take former Tigers catcher Bill Freehan as a Hall of Famer?  He was an All-Star eleven times but not a hall of famer.

Well, I'm enjoying this morning.  The Giants are in first place, tied for the best record in baseball.  :)

I'm sure, given opening in LA this year, the over/under on number of days in first place after MadBum went down had to be 0.5

Bobbbb, the Sox played the Seals in ‘56 which was the first of two years that Boston owned the franchise. Two games, Williams played in one. The Indians played the Seals in 1954.

What was the name of the company who sold the Seals to Boston?

And I’d still take Dom over Ashburn. Many thought he was a better center fielder than bro Joe.

Interesting. Didn’t the Seals go away in 58? What became the Boston AAA town?

Random thoughts...

Mays was the best all around player in MLB history

Williams was the best hitter in MLB history

If I were starting a team from scratch, give me Mays.  He played every day, Koufax once every four days.  If I had to select a pitcher, I would choose the 1968 version of Bob Gibson

My first professional game 1957 was at Seals Stadium - I still have the Lefty O’Doul autograph (he managed the Seals that year) I got that day

I guess I am not saying so much that Rusty Staub should be in the HOF. He was a great player; more than 2700 hits, received MVP votes in 7 seasons. Arguably not HOF, but such a great career. My problem is how some -- e.g., Richie Ashburn, Phil Rizzuto, Pee Wee Reese, Gary Carter, Luis Aparicio, Bill Mazeroski -- have either similar numbers, influence, or longevity and are "clear" HOFers when Staub is somehow not. To be honest, I think the fact that Staub moved a lot hurt his candidacy relative to folks like these who were more identified with one team.
