On one hand, Â the NCAA has just pimp-slapped USC for violations. Â On the face of it, the NCAA can hardly do less to Ohio St.
On the other hand, Â OSU has two things USC didn\'t have. Â First, demonstrable evidence that the school had been kept in the dark ( Â now it appears the active-voice "lied to" is appropriate) Â by the coach. Â Second, it fired the lying bastard no matter what word they use to describe his departure.
But I don\'t see how the NCAA can\'t act punitively.  To fail to do so would indicate that all a coach had to do was decrease candor and communication  and the school  decrease oversight and control and the willing, artificial ignorance of violations would become a defense for wrongdoing.  It seems the only way to maintain order (if not consistency)  is to hold the school responsible regardless.
Too bad the wreckage is still flaming and will be too hot to examine closely for a while. Â Gotta wonder what OSU found or figured out that would cause them to meet with a coach one day and have his "resignation" the next.
