I'm hoping the tweet above is Dawkins realizing that his seat is hot. I'm hopeful that Muir conveyed this at some point over the last half of the season. He's likely trying to pander to the NIT committee, but I would be surprised if we get a bid based on the way the team and coaches performed down the stretch. We don't deserve one and if we were to get one, I won't go this time. Â
This 8 year slide is calling into questing Muir's credibility as an AD. He's a basketball guy and he's on the committee, but the program has fallen below mediocrity. No one, not even Dawkins, can say that JD wasn't given a more than fair chance to succeed. The injury card has been used before. To use it again would be folly. It's time to be decisive and give the team and the program a chance to create a more positive future. Â

Dawkins seems optimistic about being offered an NIT bid:
https://twitter.com/Emilnem/status/707695516839063552
Very presumptuous of Dawkins on two fronts:
1. He assume that a bid will come. After the last 3 games, I would not share his confidence. Why would anyone want a team that has stunk up the joint without its starting PG?
2. Even if a bid comes, he also assumes that he will still be around to make the decision. Although less likely, I could envision a scenario where Muir says enough is enough, sends him packing, and decides that this team will not go to the NIT. Do I think this will happen? Heck no, but the odds are more than zero.
It is really sad to see this team play its absolute worst in what may be its last three games of the season. It really looked like a team where the players and coaches were not on the same page at all.
[/quote]
I agree on both points. I'd also note that this sounds like a coach who is at odds with his team, which is yet another reason to think Dawkins isn't running things very well.

"If we get an NIT bid, we're going," said Dawkins, whose team is 15-15. "Beyond that, we're not sure."

Has Dawkins lost the team? Was Sanders benched for perceived insubordination? Conspiracy theories abound.

I think a couple of us mentioned that after the ASU debacle we thought maybe the team didn't agree with Sanders' suspension. That, combined with the frequent looks of complete exasperation I heard Dawkins had the last three games, leads me to a similar conclusion.

At least someone associated with the Stanford athletic department or men's basketball program is at odds with Dawkins. If mediocrity isn't enough to get rid of Dawkins, perhaps losing the team will.Â
