This wasn't a subtle hold. It was a blown call plain and simple. Rector was one on one with the defender, who pulled him. This wasn't a case of running it into a pile on third down and hoping to get a good spot; it was a bad screw-up on the part of the refs; one that most refs get right most of the time.

I understand that. What I'm saying is that play likely never would have been called had the ball been on the 3 or 4, where it should have been, instead of on the 11. That play, and the subsequent officiating failure, were only made possible by offensive ineptitude. This is not to absolve the refs at all, I just think it's very short-sighted to say "The refs fucked us" and leave it at that.
And as I post about offensive ineptitude...wow. Magical ball.
