Interesting article on Richard Sherman by Elliott Almond in the Merc.
The story included these lines on the position change from WR to DB that was always a headscratcher for me. At the time, I didn\'t understand our best young WR moving to DB just as Andrew Luck stepped up. Certainly we needed help on defense - anyone who watched 2008 unfold knew that - but did we really need our most experienced returning WR trying his hand at a new position?
Evidently Sherman likes defense and sees himself as a DB pressed into service as a WR - rather than the other way around.

Quote:Sherman played offense and defense at Dominguez and also excelled as a long jumper and triple jumper in track and field. He wanted to play defensive back at Stanford, but a rash of injuries at wide receiver prompted an immediate position change. Sherman led Stanford in receiving yards as a freshman and sophomore but suffered a knee injury in 2008 that ended his season prematurely.
In 2009, Sherman asked coach Jim Harbaugh if he could return to defense -- just as a freshman named Andrew Luck was entering the picture at quarterback. Sherman has no regrets about that.
"Not in the least," he said. "I have a ball playing defense every game."
Evidently Sherman likes defense and sees himself as a DB pressed into service as a WR - rather than the other way around.
