81, root for the players and for better days ahead. This is coming from a lifelong Cubs fan...

Let's put it this way. I have been a fan since before Walsh, since the late John Brodie days in the early 1970s. At this point I am on the verge of rooting for my lifelong team to lose. Ownership is so juvenile, unprofessional, and idiotic that they richly deserve a complete collapse and an absolute fan revolt.Â
How does management do that in the space of a single year? Take a 50 year fan and convert him to "I hope you lose--it would serve you right!"?Â
In reality, I can't quite bring myself to root against a 50 year attachment just because of the idiocy of current management, so what I am doing instead is just withdrawing all interest in professional football. The only advantage the pros ever had for me over the college game is the continuity and my ability to root for some core players or coaches over a longer period of time than just four years. Obviously, that is all gone.
