Martin cut from the 49ers

I'm guessing Yvonne is happy that he will no longer be in a franchise that appears to be falling apart. Of course, that assumes he will be picked up elsewhere.

The 49ers are in the process of downgrading at every coaching and field position they possibly can. It's really sad to watch, but I'm a Bearssss fan and my team has benefited from this by getting one of the best DCs in the business (Fangio).

Stanford has been able to withstand many departures many didn't believe it could, so it may be a little premature to throw dirt on the Niners.Â

Are you kidding? They have downgraded every coach except for Rathman who they kept. Their free agents are all bolting (has even one of them re-signed?) and Borland & Willis retiring is crippling them at ILB. The Raiders might win more games next season.

Yes a couple have resigned and Bowman ain't exactly a poor player at ILBer.Â
Not to mention Tomsula has not been impressive in the glimpses we have gotten so far. He has that deer in a bright light look at most press conferences at a time when a firm hand is needed.
You may roll your eyes at this but while not impressing the local fanbase is one thing, not impressing available free agents can be crippling. Harbaugh gave plenty of awkward interviews but he always came across as a man with a plan and purpose (who just didn't like being forced to talk about his team to the press.)
The front office looked like bozos content to undermine their team and their coach during the NFL season. The offseason player/coach exodus is telling the world that NFL professionals no longer see SF as a "destination". Something smells in 49er land and agents/players are experts at sniffing the air.

Short of some kind of natural disaster, I'm honestly not sure how this offseason could be worse for the niners. One of the best coaches in the NFL is forced out, replaced by someone who seems like a complete yes-man (because that works so well in the NFL), and pretty much every star or replacement is leaving, many of them in shocking fashion. On /r/NFL 49ers fans are more pitied than Browns fans right now. Let that sink in.
Could everything work out? Sure. But I think it takes a real homer to expect improvement over 8-8 this year.

If you had a chance to attend the Chicken Bowl, you were definitely able to smell this.

It's all about the QB. If Kaepernick makes a big leap in performance they will be better than people might be expecting. Here's the thing, or things. Kaepernick is smart (same Wonderlic as Luck). He's incredibly physically gifted. He wants to be great and is working his ass off in the off season. He's going to have better weapons that maybe he's ever had in 2014. This will only be his second year starting a season as a starting NFL QB.Â

He took over for Smith midseason in 2012, played all of 2013 and 2014. This is third year starting a season as a starting QB.
I don't know OF. Kaepernick may be highly improved and he may have better WRs and TEs but a great NFL QB without a great NFL OL or (worse) without a great NFL defense is heavily handicapped. John Elway didn't get his ring until the Broncos paid for a top tier OL, RB and D - All areas the 49ers are on paper weaker than in years past.
I suppose I could have on blinders. Perhaps the 49ers are shedding expensive players a year too early and substituting with cheaper, younger, soon-to-emerge talent. Maybe this is all part of a short rebuilding cycle.Â
Maybe, but I'm not putting any money on them in Vegas.

For those who are not from the Bay Area, the 49er meltdown can be hard to fathom, and it may be hard to appreciate the extent or depth or speed of it.
Let's put it this way. I have been a fan since before Walsh, since the late John Brodie days in the early 1970s. At this point I am on the verge of rooting for my lifelong team to lose. Ownership is so juvenile, unprofessional, and idiotic that they richly deserve a complete collapse and an absolute fan revolt.Â
How does management do that in the space of a single year? Take a 50 year fan and convert him to "I hope you lose--it would serve you right!"?Â
In reality, I can't quite bring myself to root against a 50 year attachment just because of the idiocy of current management, so what I am doing instead is just withdrawing all interest in professional football. The only advantage the pros ever had for me over the college game is the continuity and my ability to root for some core players or coaches over a longer period of time than just four years. Obviously, that is all gone.
