Based on the numbers for the 2016 class, it's now abundantly clear that the 2017 class will be small.Â
Absent attrition, there are 37 open spaces for kids who will start playing in 2016 and 2017 combined.
The 2016 class currently has 24 commits, but 2 are going on a mission, and then we expect Fox to return, so that leaves a net of 23 entering.Â
Of course, there are 3 more admitted recruits with offers, so that net number could increase up to 26.Â
That means somewhere between 11-14 spaces, plus any spaces freed by attrition, for recruits entering in 2017.Â
If you figure that attrition will be in the range of 3-5, it seems there will be roughly 16 spaces for the next class. That includes Reid and Heimuli, who committed in 2015 and are returning from a mission.Â
So in the next year, the staff needs to secure LOIs from roughly 14 kids, plus any number who intend to defer for any reason, such as to serve on a mission.
It will be interesting to see how the staff handles recruiting for such a small class.Â
