Actually in this case, they clearly both chose to play close to home (and must have felt more comfortable and likely to succeed basketball-wise at Baylor vs. Texas). I'd say clearly this trumps ANY academic reputations -- people at Cal must be REALLY disappointed because they were supposedly in the running for Chou.

I don't see her on the list...but in any case, hopefully because she's not from the U.S., the scouts haven't had an accurate look at her and she can blossom into an All-American candidate during her time on the Farm

PN ranks our 2015 class as 20th with Alanna Smith our top recruit, but our 2016 is ranked much higher. Quite interesting that our 2016 players are considered much better as a class than our 2015 players. I would not have thought so. Also, these ratings have been compiled without accounting for Mikaela Brewer, so perhaps our ranking will go up when they give us credit for all four recruits. But here are the PN ranking of recruit classes for 2016:

2) She simply may have connected better with Rueck than with Tara, who does tend to emphasize that students approach the game in a professional, business-like manner. Tara has lightened up a lot over the decades, though, and it is clear that the players do have a lot of fun together. It is hard to believe someone would trade a Stanford degree for an Oregon State degree for that reason alone, though. Â
3) She may actually believe what she said about Tara and retirement but the information was baseless rumor-mongering. This might have been information other coaches used to raise those "red flags" in her mind. "Why only a two year extension?" etc. Would the other Pac 12 coaches like Rueck engage in that kind of behavior? Pretty despicable if true.
4) Finally, and we should ask this ourselves, could there be any truth to the retirement rumors? Tara has always been impeccably honest in her dealings with everybody, so if she herself is taking it a year at a time and cannot guarantee to a recruit that she will stay for 5 more years, then this could explain the inexplicable--why both Katie Lou and Pivec went elsewhere. While this may not be the case now, at some point in the future she will consider retirement, and given her honesty her recruits will know of it before it happens.
So...anyone have evidence as to which of the four it is?

Sabrina Ionescu picks Oregon. Graves has a brobdingnagian class (7 players) coming in. Not sure if he can get them all to coalesce this upcoming year, but they will be a threat going forward.

Not sure if he can get them all to coalesce this upcoming year, but they will be a threat going forward.As Graves has settled in, this entering recruiting class is a very big threat indeed. Oregon is clearly shaping up to be our biggest competition 2+ years out--probably replacing Oregon State and Arizona State. I agree that this year may be rocky with the loss of Alleyne and half his team being freshmen. I believe that several of their recruits were obvious Stanford targets until their grades did not come through. I have the highest respect (as does Tara) for Graves--Gonzaga gave us fits in the past--and now we have as Pac 12 competition an ethical, effective coach who seems to be able to vacuum up a lot of excellent basketball players with B+/A- GPAs.
