Having been humbled by sanctions, Literature's Greatest Losers responded: they reportedly "cracked down" and hired a top-notch compliance staff -- a combination of a small-town constabulary and the A-Team. They also decided to complain ad nauseam that anyone could have the effrontery to, you know, crack down on them. That's why old-timey stories like this simply don't occur anyone:

Eighteen-year-old Dillon Baxter lounged on yachts, slept in mansions, was flown to Fiji on one day’s notice and whisked to private islands he cannot identify by name — his early enjoyment, he says, at USC.

The former Mission Bay High running back admits immaturity. He acted, when he arrived in Los Angeles, like he had arrived. He was suspended his first game, reportedly in part for marijuana use. His classroom attendance was poor.

Baxter ... became a YouTube sensation months before his first college season began; a touchdown run from a spring practice went viral. That’s when, Baxter says, things changed, as affluent students on campus came into contact with him.

They included Teague Egan.

.... Baxter accepted a golf cart ride from him, a widely publicized incident that violated NCAA policy. Egan was a certified agent. USC ruled Baxter ineligible, and later, the NFL Players Association revoked Egan’s certification.

Tell me more about this experience:

He recalled one day when Teague Egan told him they were going to Fiji the next day.

"I was like, ‘What do you mean? I can’t buy that,’ ” Baxter said. “And he was like, ‘I didn’t ask that.’ Then, we just went to Fiji the next day. Things like that. Wild stuff.”

That was one trip.

There were many others, too, Baxter said.

As we know, these stories don't occur ever since SC was busted back in January 2010.
