I didn't even think this was possible, but did a little interwebs research, and found that a scholarship can indeed be revoked for athletic, academic, or disciplinary reasons. Wow. I am surprised. Has that ever happened at Stanford, that a scholarship was revoked for non-academic and non-disciplinary reasons, i.e., because a player was not good enough to contribute?

And it's not as if Michigan throws the ball a lot more than Stanford. Harbaugh and Shaw want to run more or less the same offense. Last year Michigan threw for 26 more yards per game, and that only because UM didn't have the run game Harbaugh would like.

His real danger is that if other things go well enough for UM, he suddenly won't be able to raise the UM guys on the phone when his LOI never shows up for his signature.

Judging from his comments Stewart's two top priorities seem to be:
1. Attending a school that isn't overly obsessed with academics.
2. Attending a school where he knows and feels comfortable with the coaches and players with whom he will be associating.

So we will see if Shaw can work around those issues.

Judging from his comments Stewart's two top priorities seem to be:

Stanford has a flat scale for admission. It goes like this: Make the score. Take the official. The official visit is not offered to a prospect without that score.

If Robertson does not increase his score, then expect his decision to come down to Georgia, Alabama, Cal, Georgia Tech and Notre Dame. If he does, look for his timeline to extend another week. He would still have to take the visit out to Palo Alto, Calif., and check out Stanford’s  campus.

--- Based on this article, it honestly sounds like Stanford is still his #1.  He's not declaring yet because he's waiting on the SAT score, and if he gets it, he's going to OV to Stanford, and decide after that.

This is what is making me crazy about this recruitment.  I'm not saying Stewart should be scared of the competition at Michigan, but it seems reasonable to look at who else is there at your position and candidly assess your chances of breaking through the logjam to get significant playing time.  In our class, we have Fehoko (who's going on a mission, so doesn't really count for another two years) and Paxton Segina, who is a 2-star recruit.  (Segina may prove to be another underrecruited Stanford success story, but our WR class right now is not exactly overflowing with high-ranking immediate contributors.)  Contra Michigan, with 4-star Ahmir Mitchell, 4-star Dylan Crawford, 4-star Brad Hawkins, and 3- to 4-star Nate Johnson**. 

** (Stewart actually ranks ahead of Johnson on ESPN (77 to Johnson's 72) and Rivals (the 74th-ranked WR compared to the 79th-ranked WR), but Johnson is ahead on 247 (92 to 86) and Scout (67th-ranked WR to the 102nd-ranked WR).)

Not only would Stewart leave school with a significantly more prestigious degree by coming to Stanford, Stewart would be the top-ranked WR from this class when he steps foot on campus.  He would be the 4th- or 5th-ranked WR in this class in Ann Arbor, depending on the service.  And as for quality of football, we can look at the final AP rankings for the past six years:

While Harbaugh might have recruited wide receivers who are more highly rated than Stewart, that doesn't mean Harbaugh has over-recruited him.  Given Harbaugh's emphasis on the run game (and thus on wide receivers who can run-block), Stewart, who is 6'3.5" and could probably put 200 lbs on his frame, might be a better fit for Harbaugh's scheme than a couple of the guys who did commit to Michigan.

Ultimately, we have no idea where Stewart is in the WR pecking order for Michigan.  Remember, Harbaugh showed no hesitation to start several walk-on wide receivers at Stanford, and those tended to be bigger "possession reveiver" guys who could run-block.

If "too much emphasis on academics" is a concern, WTF did he apply to Stanford and visit the campus three times?  Is Stanford really going to lose Stewart because the admissions guy scared him away with the "this school is hard" mantra quoted in the story on his Stanford visit?  As was said earlier, it's one thing for your recruiting rivals to bring this stuff up to dissuade recruits, but for your own school to do it, ugh.  If I was Shaw I would be flying around on my broom pissed off, especially given all the admissions casualties this cycle already.
