Without going back to check out the details, it did seem to me that in the past few years (until this year), recruits had been committing to us more slowly than during the Harbaugh years, when it always seemed that Harbs was pushing students to commit, perhaps as a way of generating buzz around the program.  This year, things seemed to move a lot faster, but I would guess, given the number of possible admission casualties, maybe next year we see a move back to the slow approach.

From what I understand, he's in play.  Our recruits seem to think so in their various tweets about him, so I presume there's at least some interest.  Clearing admissions is obviously a brobdingnagian factor there, so we're far more in play now than we were before he got the good news.

Often, I think it's less what they're hearing from Stanford and more what they're not hearing--i.e., getting frustrated that they haven't yet gotten the thumbs up from Admissions despite Signing Day being right around the corner.  I'd open things up if I were in their shoes, too.  When you have good options elsewhere and your top choice hasn't yet said you can come, it would be unwise to be fully committed to your top choice. 

Sure, sometimes a decommitment is because they got dinged by admissions.  But sometimes it's just frustration with not knowing, frustration no doubt helped along by other schools' recruiters.  And sometimes it's because an admitted kid realizes he'd like a different situation better.  All of that happens, and there's nothing we can really do about it.  Thus, while I follow this stuff with great interest, I'm not going to start worrying about decommitments until there's an observable trend (such as a critical mass of recruits over a few years decommitting and then committing to a particular school, or the sheer number of January decommitments threatening to leave us in a compromised competitive position).  I'll still be bummed out by the academic ones, and I'll still be agog over someone legitimately preferring another school, particularly in the Pac-12, to Stanford, but I have a lot of faith in both the football program here as well as Admissions, so I'll do my best to defer to their decisionmaking.

Thank goodness we have stockpiled defensive back talent, because the attrition at CB and S this year has been brutal.  What was at one point shaping up to be an epic DB class has been almost decimated.

FYI, I don't think Hoffpauir's return is at all related here.  Most of the guys we recruited could have been expected to redshirt or play special teams/back-up given the young talent already on the roster, and thus really wouldn't have meaningfully competed with Hoffpauir for PT.

And let's not discount what 2017 can offer. We're leading for Darnay Holmes and are in strong positions for Jeffrey Okudah, Elijah Molden, and Chaz Ah You. If our attrition in this cycle even incrementally helps bring some combination of 2+ of those guys to the Farm, then we're in good shape.

Not remotely awkward.  Strong knows that certain kids are going to go to Stanford if they get admitted.  Strong has a reputation, whether it is true or not I don't know, of encouraging the players to shop around and take the time they need to make the right decision.

Stewart is a mortal lock to come to Stanford.  After he already had the Michigan offer, he came to Stanford's camp on his own dime to earn an offer.  He stayed uncommitted for months while he waited for news from Montag, despite substantial risk that he'd lose the offer at Michigan. 

Eboh was present at the big junior day that got everyone excited about this class.  He's been on board since Day 1.  He made the safe harbor commitment to Texas, but he stuck with Stanford the whole time he was committed and is attending Stanford's Big Visit instead of going to Texas on their corresponding big weekend.  I would be surprised if he doesn't end up in this class, notwithstanding the fact that he's currently committed and notwithstanding the recent tOSU offer.

McCulloch reminds me of Solomon Thomas.  An elite Texas recruit facing a lot of pressure to stay in state, but he's a perfect fit for Stanford.  The fact that he's so tight lipped about his recruitment could be interpreted many ways, but it leads me to believe that he's leaving home.  I'm calling Stanford.

There are other possibilities out there, but these are the three who have my attention, and I think Shaw has a great chance to sweep.
