Predict the score: #13 Stanford Vs #9 UCLA

Stanford 37, UCLA 24
I think we see renewed energy on both sides of the ball. And how about a sack for Kaumatule?

Please clear the field! The game is not over!

This is a really hard game to figure out. Part of the problem is figuring out the season. Do you think:
1) The last two games were a lull, and the two games before (when Stanford looked -- statistically and to the eye -- like a legitimate top 10, 5 team) were the real team?
2) That in fact the UW game was the lull and statistically Stanford played decently against Utah but had untimely miscues that don't affect your overall opinion of the team?
3) That for some reason UW and Utah present bad matchups for Stanford?
4) That random chance intervened and even a really good team will slip up against a tough schedule most of the time? (i.e. that people are fooled by randomness?)
5) That the UW and Utah games portend doom for Stanford?
6) That the UW and Utah games present problems for Stanford but ones that coaches and players can and will adjust?
Statistically the team is better this year than last, at least according to most metrics I've seen; but then again, UCLA is probably much better this year than last. I'm still troubled by the inability to adjust to that flanker motion, especially since UCLA uses it so frequently. I really have no idea what will happen, and it seems like pickers feel the same way -- I'd guess a 50/50 split, and Vegas's opening line of -7 has been bet down to -4.5, a significant drop.

(But I have a bad feeling about this game.)

24-17 good guys
On a day when Coach Shaw is hesitant to kick field goals the Stanford D line gets to Hundley and slows down the Bruin offense with big second half sacks. We still haven't figured out our offensive issues but Montgomery gets some help from Rector and Cajuste. Stanford is ahead throughout the second half but has to survive a spirited fourth quarter comeback.

24-13 Cardinal. This has not been a good UCLA offenseRDXCAR despite their final scores; they've played horrible defenses. But it's been an excellent defense and could be scary next year, even without Barr. McCarthy, Vanderdoes, Myles Jack, all those young DBs.Â
That defense can slow down ours and we can stifle theirs if we play smart and take good angles on Hundley. Could appear to be a great game by our defense but again, this offense--particularly without JJ--wasn't dynamic even before Wilson went down.

Hope you're right, but if Utah's defense is horrible what does that make our offense?
Hopefully just having had a bad day.

Well, Hulk's prediction of a low scoring game is certainly spot on so far.

Well done Stanford, back to your winning ways, which in turn, makes it a bit easier to predict your results... except if you predict a shootout! Ugh, I'm back to the bottom this week. >:(
This week's winner is a newbie, Hulk01, who's posted exactly once on the Cardboard. Very efficient posting, Hulk01!
In the overall standings Leftcoast switched places with Farmboy.
Kevin Gemmell is close by, and ready to pounce!
