Because they offered him later, and because he is ranked "lower," doesn't mean necessarily that Dreyer is plan "B." They obviously like him in camp and, then, offered. Sometimes something equal or better comes along

Because they offered him later, and because he is ranked "lower," doesn't mean necessarily that Dreyer is plan "B." They obviously like him in camp and, then, offered. Sometimes something equal or better comes along

Thanks for this.  Most of the other ones looked like the players were starting at the same time.  I was watching without sound and just assumed a whistle started it.

I understand that. I was just pointing out that they haven't said they would take more than 3 for the o-line in this class. And they didn't even offer Dreyer at the camp or right after. They waited a few weeks. Seems related to Roberts' pending announcement. I do think he's going to be a good player so I don't consider him a Plan B type. I just meant he was Plan B at OT because Stanford isn't likely to take more than one.

Overall, Stanford looks to be in pretty good shape, assuming Shaw continues his historical record of landing a high percentage of the guys he recruits.  However, the report that Kaumatule is not an option really hurt.  A commitment from Rasheem Green would be giant.  And it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility.  He has a 3.5 GPA and is reportedly taking an official visit.  We will probably have to wait until the bitter end, but if he commits, it will have been worth the wait.

This just shows the difficulty of recruiting a great college football team.  Shaw could easily land 8 (or more) consensus four-star players this year and still be subject to valid criticism if he leaves a big hole on the DL. 

However, at least for now, I remain optimistic that Stanford will land a top notch DL, whether it be Green, Wilkins, Kaumatule, or someone not on our radar.  Aside from the usual arguments for Stanford, Randy Hart is a great, proven position coach who is unlikely to leave anytime soon.  Any academically qualified DL recruit would be crazy not to seriously explore the possibility of attending Stanford.

I get that Hoge is not changing his commitment.  He's from small town Idaho.  Even though he's closer in distance to Stanford, he'd probably suffer a lot more culture shock in Palo Alto than in South Bend.

I have no inside info on St. Brown, but I tend to believe the theory that the St. Browns have decided to focus on the California schools.  I just cannot see an academic high-achiever from the O.C. foregoing a Stanford offer and instead choosing to attend college in bumble Indiana with a bunch of cheaters.  USC maybe, but not University of Bumble Indiana.
