While Dykes is getting paid about a million less per season than Tedford did in his last few years, Tedford didn't start out making as much as Dykes is starting at.Â
The best thing about the contract is it actually includes a buyout concept. It starts at $3 million and goes down $500k for each as year of service completed on the five year term. Hopefully the UC Regents will continue with a similar buyout if the contract is ever extended.
Anyway, Dykes is a way more open and less paranoid guy than Tedford. He also seems to "get" football and what a college football program needs to thrive, beyond simple Xs and Os, well beyond what Tedford ever did.Â
