After shutting down Wisconsin, they now have held UCLA to 4 first downs, 98 yards, and a field goal in a half of play. The Bruins had been averaging near 40 a game up to now.

Who knows, the way they are playing, they might even be able to hold the Ducks to under 40. :)

With the same players and same coaching staff(?), OSU is playing lights out on D despite playing only their second game of the season. It's so inexplicable the only thing I can come up with is that the Reser company supplied the team with some magic potato salad or something.

It's looking like their game against Wisconsin was not a fluke; plus they have their offense going, too. The game against the Beavs is going to be a toughie.

Their defense has looked good, but not quite superlative--UCLA's players have dropped a lot of passes, it seems to me. But, yes, impressive.

Stanford had a tough game against Oregon State last year too, iirc.  Owusu was knocked out on another borderline-if-not-outright-dirty hit.  Luck had that nifty spin move that juked a defender into the sidelines.

who can take sub-optimal players and beat more talented teams.  We almost all admire what Chip Kelly has accomplished, at least on the field.  Riley deserves his share.  Could have spared us the pain of the Buddy, Wlat years,  but the interviewing committee found him less simpatico than Buddy.

The reports at the time were that  Riley definitely interviewed and Riley definitely did not impress.  That might have been disinformation coming from those who wanted to follow the easy path to Ted's Buddy.  OR it might jibe with the idea that Riley didn't want the Stanford job and just sleep-walked through the interview.  One story that emerged afterwards tends to confirm that some sort of interview/interaction took place:  Riley was quoted somewhere as saying he had a bad cold/flu, was feeling crappy but interviewed anyway.  His explanation was his failure to impress came from being sub-optimal during showtime.  But,  maybe it was STANFORD that failed to impress. 

OR.... it's ALL mis and dis information.  All gone now.  Except that he's dropping by again in a few weeks with another bunch of middle tier Pac-12 talent that seems to be following the pattern for Riley-led teams:  tough and dangerous if taken lightly.
