Watching the Warriors vs Nuggets right now and was surprised to see Spencer Jones in the game! Undrafted, didn't realize he was on a 2-way contract with Denver. Really pumped for him. Always felt like he had the size and shooting touch to play in the NBA, but that Haase was so terrible that Spencer's skills weren't showcased.

Spencer has been on a two way since the summer.  Denver has had so many injuries that he's probably going to max out his active games this season (iirc that's limited to 50).

Tonight is the first time that Spencer has played meaningful minutes.  Just mop up duty previously.

Well, he started for 5 years due to covid, so the career totals aren't all that telling. But serious question: did you watch those Haase teams? Sure, he took and made (relatively-speaking) a lot of 3's, though fewer last year than Raynaud, Sellers and Agarwal took this year. But my main beef with Haase is that the degree of difficulty for Spencer's shots was always at 11. There's a difference between a catch-and-shoot open 3 and a 3 off the dribble and/or with a hand in your face, and as a season ticket holder I complained for 5 years that Haase's offense did absolutely nothing to create open shots for his shooters. In the right system, I think he could have been a shooter/scorer with national buzz like Raynaud had this year, not someone that no one but us Stanford fans ever talked about.

Put it a different way: there's a reason he had to stay 5 years before he finally had to take his shot at the NBA due to running out of eligibility. He started all 5 years as I said, and the talent, size, defense and shooting were obvious from the jump. Imo, he, like the rest of team, was screwed over by Haase's incompetence...and Muir's.

Also, after such an impressive close to his penultimate season in which he demonstrated a surprisingly broad range of offensive skills in the last ten or so games, it was particularly painful to watch Spencer play most of his last season with essentially one arm. Nice to see him healthy again and finally able to show when he can do.
