With OKC Thunder winning the NBA title last night it got me thinking. OKC had poor records just a few years ago, going 22-50 in 2020-2021 and 24-58 in 2021-2022. They had a first round #2 overall pick and selected Chet Holmgren in 2022.

My guess is Tim Duncan.
OKC picked Jalen Williams from Santa Clara with the #12 overall pick in the 2022 draft. Scored 21.7 ppg in the NBA playoffs for OKC, 18.7 last year's playoffs. Finished 2nd in Rookie of the Year voting in 2022.

I don't think the PASportsfan's question on quickest turn around after a #1 overall draft pick has been answered.
How about, Earvin "Magic" Johnson? Magic was the first overall pick in 1979 and won the NBA Championship in 1980, famously playing every position from Point Guard to Center; A generational talent that created the "Showtime" Lakers.
The Magic v Bird high stakes championship games that started with the NCAA finals between Michigan State and Indiana State continued throughout the 1980s NBA. Has there ever been anything like that since? By the way, I'll date myself and admit to watching that NCAA finals game on a black and white TV while being told to come to the dinner table by my parents who just didn't understand why the game was epic. (I held off until Michigan State pulled away to seal the game.)
