Forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere, but here's some very positive comments about Coach Taylor's program by former David Shaw player, Stanford's OG, circa 2009, Andy Phillips:

I have to agree.  I love Phillips' enthusiasm, and far be it from me to question his sense of the "vibe" and momentum of the program under the new staff. However, his comparisons between last year and 2007 don't seem to hold up.

• He equates the biggest upset of all-time (USC) to our win over lowly Colorado last year.  Yes, both were electrifying finishes on a national stage, but one opponent was a dynasty and the #1 team in the country, and the other turned out to be a hot mess and basically sucked. 
  
• He equates future NFL stars Baldwin, Sherman, and the young OL talent in 2007 (e.g., DeCastro) to Ayomanor and this OL. Only time will tell, but that's probably an enormous stretch.  Not to mention that Luck would turn out to be a generational talent, as gailtate said...
  
• "New, fresh energy with a new staff and fresh vision for the program". I'll concede this one, although the type of energy is completely different. Harbaugh's energy was win-at-all-costs, borderline abusive, and required a sort of intervention session with counselors/admins, players, and staff during his first camp.  It remains to be seen whether TT's "Love" energy can achieve the same results.  
  

That said, I hope Phillips' sense of the overall direction is right on point!  If 2023 was like 2007, and 2024 is to 2023 as 2008 was to 2007, sign me up! 

In fact, they can sign me up anyway - I just renewed and will continue to do so.  But I didn't renew with any particular expectations of on-field success this season.  I am hoping for improvement and more than 3 wins...
