He's a lifer and when somebody tells him his Stanford life is over he'll cross that bridge when he needs to, but I don't think it's realistic/understanding of his mentality to think he'll take a shortcut to that bridge. However, he is 35 years old and being "kicked to the curb" may not be too attractive at that age. I don't claim to "understand his mentality". I don't know the man. My belief that he should go somewhere else and "polish his resume" is based on the obvious fact he may need to get a job elsewhere "soon" (almost needed to this year), and it is better to be proactive, and attempt to control your own destiny. He may be perfectly happy being a QB coach at Stanford forever. However, there are good reasons to believe that is not an option. Given that, my suggestion remains the same.

I don't know how anybody couldn't be thrilled with this turn of events in the structuring of our defensive/special teams staff. Actually operating like a big-time program in hiding a bona fide coach in the "analyst" ranks. And it's not like Alamar was an irreplaceable recruiter.

Feel like I'm greedy to ask for more Christmas gifts but let's close out the staff with Chevis Jackson, JD Williams, Demario Warren, Terrence Brown, TJ Rushing (yeah, I know, not happening), or Will Harris. With Gregory not coaching DBs for two decades it would be nice to get a proven stud coach for the corners. These guys largely coach at lesser programs or are Stanford alums so I'd hope one would be realistic. I realize I am aiming high but with only one spot remaining to be announced it focuses the mind!

My understanding is that a year or two ago, Stanford amended the contracts for assistant football coaches to tie them to Shaw's continued employment. Whereas previously a coach on a two-year deal would have been paid out for the second year if he had been fired without cause after the first year, I believe any coach not retained by Taylor will only be paid out through March.

He has a contract for the coming year. That isn't "forever", and if he and TT don't "mesh" well, he could very well be gone next year. Of course, QB coaches (and Offensive Coordinators) get fired/"released" all the time in college. It might have been arguable that as long as Shaw was the HC, Tavita would have a job and relying on that to be essentially "forever" MIGHT have made sense. That is no longer the case and therefore the odds of Tavita not being at Stanford anywhere close to forever just went up by orders of magnitude. That should make looking at his options and filling out his resume much more attractive/necessary than than ever before.

On this we agree totally. Seeing how it goes with TT probably makes sense, since that is an available option. It is almost as if the new job came to Tavita instead of visa-versa. However, relying on inheriting the HC position probably isn't an option any more, if it ever was.

teams can have an unlimited number of analysts.  Analysts are not allowed to recruit and not allowed to do direct on-field coaching of players, but can do things like provide instruction and watch film off-field with players.  In many ways they seem to extra eyes and brain cycles that extend the reach and effective hours of the rest of the coaching staff.  For example, some can start game planning for future opponents weeks earlier than the regular staff could.

They went from a team that controlled games running and stopping the run to a team that could do neither. Stopped getting and developing players that could physically dominate their opponent. Went from intellectual brutality to just intellectual.

Pritchard is also young. Unlike several of the other coaches, retirement is probably not one of his options. He was also willing to take a step down and be the QB coach. It probably is a situation where both parties will try it out and see how it goes. I wouldn't be amazed if it works out. Similarly, I wouldn't be amazed if it doesn't. There is going to be lots of "settling in" for the new staff, and undoubtedly there will be some rough edges. Pritchard may indeed help bridge that process. However, I think there is no doubt that his current situation is a "trial run" and he might not last into 2024. Then again, it might go gangbusters. We shall see.

What exactly are you basing this off of? We haven't seen any passing from either of them to determine this. And if you think Pritchard was the one who decided Daniels would be a run-only QB in a totally telegraphed package, I have a bunch of NFTs to sell you.
