We find out now
This is disgusting. That was a clear strike 3.
Damn it. This ump sucks
Completely inconsistent strikes.
Did I hear KZSU correctly? They said, “third base umpire Brandon Cooper.” That guy has no business umpiring any game anywhere anytime.
Edit 3:52 pm Saturday: Roxy Bernstein sez I’m wrong. “Not true, 3rd base ump was Billy Van Raaphorst. He does a solid job.”

Why was Bruno giving that batter anything? A walk isn’t horrible in that situation with no one on first, why not see if the batter chases…

Our defense and pitching has not been the problem. Gotta capitalize when you have runners on base. 9 hits...and only 2 runs.
Well, shoot. Our offense always thinks it can come back, but.....

This game reminds me so much of Stanford vs. Oklahoma x2 in WCWS. So many missed opportunities.

I would have kept the other pitcher in if I was Wake. Oh well.
Disappointing to put it lightly

Good scouting by Wake on that double play, hit it right up the middle which often gets you a hit, but the 2nd baseman was right there for the easy double play. Brutal not having a bullpen you can rely on…

Bruno threw a clear strike 3. The ump didn't call it.

0-for-4 with 3K's isn't great, but in both baseball and softball, the pitcher simply wins each at-bat far more frequently than the hitter. We have great hitters and they all get on base less than 50% of the time. Until those fundamentals change, the better pitching team more likely than not is going to win.
It is hard for me to blame the offense when the pen has now blown 3 games in its last four, and some of our high leverage relievers have 7+ ERAs.

The lightning delay was a killer. It would have been nice to let Drew Dowd keep rolling.

Frustrating loss. The pitching was good. The hitting and base running faltered. It was a winnable game. Now we have to win 4 in a row to get to the championship series.
The thing that bothers me the most, moreso than the pick offs, is the third base coach being a graduate of the David Shaw School of Turtling.

I know we were so close against OU, but OU finished the year with only one loss, best record ever and is recognized as greatest softball team of all time based on those accomplishments. This Wake team is great, but competing against OU softball is another level (multiple levels I would argue) than this Wake baseball team. It is like rueing missed opportunities against a Nick Saban Bama football team.

quite honestly with the recent ump performances in college and even MLB , I'm in favor of going to an automated strike zone. Tradition can go by the wayside when strikes become balls and vice versa.

I mean, if we have the technology, it is like VAR in soccer, why not get the call right. That being said, same home plate ump in top and bottom halves of the inning.

The ump can remain and relay strike / ball calls from the system along with adjudication of HBP and home plate tags.
