I was there. This is 100% accurate. At the end of 5, Stanford had used 5 pitchers.

We’re ranked 184th nationally, giving up 4.93 walks per 9 but the NCAA hasn’t updated their stats yet to include yesterday’s 12 free passes.

Today’s two errors triggered me to look at our defensive ranking, too. We rank #118 nationally with a .971 fielding percentage.
Put simply, we haven’t played very clean baseball this season. I don’t think there’s any doubt that our hitting can take us far in Omaha. Our pitching staff has the stuff to dominate as well but if we don’t clean up the sloppiness and eliminate the walks and errors, we won’t make it past the Supers.

I was about to post that our offense has gone quiet against better pitching, and then I tuned in to see Rios hit a grand slam against UCLA to put us up 10-7.
But yeah, we've given away a lot of free bases this season, and our defense hasn't been too sharp. Is it too late in the season to fix that?

I will be very happy if we get to the CWS. Unfortunately, I don't think we have the team to win it all. We are weaker on offense than last year although I think there's a slight uptick in our pitching over last year.
On offense, we lost starters:
Jones
Crampton
Huff
Barrera
Replaced by:
Moore
Cobb
Rios
Various
The only player I think we replaced (by position) without dropoff is Huff. Moore is playing very well.
Jones, of course, can't be replaced by someone new. Even with the improvement of returning players from the previous year, I don't see the bottom of our order being feared as it was last year. No easy outs in our lineup last year.
Not the case this year as we have seen with some glaring offensive dry spells. Our bottom of the lineup doesn't have the same pop from what I have seen so far.

Speaking of Brock Jones, a couple of guys asked about him at the Saturday game. He's currently playing A-ball with the Charleston (SC) Riverdogs. He's gotten very adept at working walks. Or maybe nobody wants to pitch to him. Anyway, here's his stats:

Your update on Jones and the comments above about Williams and his late season struggles last year made me look up Williams' progress in the minors so far.
The end of the year collapse for Williams was perhaps the steepest decline I have ever seen - at least in the running. He went from being the best pitcher in the Pac 12 to the worst guy Stanford was throwing out there. Over his last four outings (Pac 12 tournament and the NCAA tournament) he had game ERAs of 7.7 (Arizona), 9.6 (Texas State), 40.5 (UConn), and 10.4 (Arkansas). It was so bad and so sudden I was convinced he had some terrible injury.
So, his minor stats so far.
2022 he started 2 games in rookie ball. It appears he went 5 perfect innings.
2023 he is starting in high A ball with the Beloit Sky Carp. He has started 3 games so far, 16 total innings pitched, 4.5 ERA, 1.44 WHIP.
[Looks like 2 of 3 starts were pretty good, but struggled in his second start. However he went on the 7 day injured list after start #3]
