I'm really happy to see Stanford get this win, against a top 25 team on their home court, without Nekka!!  Well done!  Toni had a great game and the most minutes.  Amber and Taylor played very well and all of the freshmen, except Alex (see other threads re possible red-shirting) got into the game.    NOT HAPPY about Chiney's poor free throw shooting, and especially distressed to hear the KZSU announcer say she has been working on this for hours a day...  Lots of people made big contributions, notably Amber, Joslyn and Taylor.  Great road experience.  Can't wait for the Gonzaga game at Maples on Sunday!!

I was on the Stanford side above the metal folding chairs by a whole section of plastic stadium seats.  Not a great place to get noticed, but it was a serviceable sight line.  Many family members of the players were in attendance, as were family friends from Houston (Orrange and the Ogwumikes have quite the following from Houston).

Orrange's fearlessness in attempting dribble penetration is going to be key to this team's success, and I really think fearlessness is the right term--any of the other guards really did not dare to drive the lane.  The offense at various points regressed to the old "pass into the paint and shoot from the top of the key" or "shoot a three."  Some of the 3pt attempts were open, some were end-of-the-shot-clock attempts.  Chiney did grab a lot of misses, although Stanford seemed to allow a lot of Texas offensive boards as well.

Was it me, or was Stanford's passing slow/telegraphed?  Texas seemed to steal every fourth passing attempt.

There were at least a couple of pauses in the flow of the game taken to recover or replace one of Chiney's contacts.  Contact in the paint?  Yeah, there was some...

I worry about the lack of crispness when I see this sort of game contrasted with the UNC-Michigan State Carrier Classic game.  Those guys have also had similarly long layoffs...and they looked fairly sharp.

Michigan State shot less than 31% from the floor, with almost twice as many turnovers as assists, and still only lost by 12.  I'm not sure I'd call that a "sharp" game?

Both teams looked ragged, especially at the start of the game, when I thought we might wind up with a 21-19 final score. Lots of sloppy turnovers, dumb fouls and truly execrable shots.

It's November.
