So many mistakes; this would have been a great victory, but we made so many errors and as good as South Carolina is, they make you pay for them. Yes, they force you into uncomfortable situations and make shots tough, but we also had silly mistakes

we watched 3 replays and it looked like Boston faked Fran into stepping into the lane. We couldn't see any contact between Boston and Fran. What a game. We have a lot to learn from tonight: SC will be in the Final 4 for sure.

we watched 3 replays and it looked like Boston faked Fran into stepping into the lane. We couldn't see any contact between Boston and Fran. What a game. We have a lot to learn from tonight: SC will be in the Final 4 for sure.

In both our games against SC giving Brink the ball at the end has been a disaster.
Henderson was the difference for SC. She played a great game. We played really well against the No. 1 team. I think we still have a ways to go and this will help us become better. Brink really needs to work on not fouling and the team needs to work on not moving on screens. Several of those screens our player could have cut closer and not caused the screener to have to step into the defender. Also think Brink goes one on one at times she should be looking to pass. I don't think she realizes that she can't push her way against Aliyah Boston.

Part of it is not having a seasoned PG like Kiana WILLIAMS for controlled ballhandling amidst pressure defense, and this was evidenced by Destanni HENDERSON having 7 steals by the end of the 3rd quarter.
And with Stanford's similar 3rd quarter collapse at Tennessee just in very recent memory as in just 3 days ago, Tara waited and waited to call TO not until South Carolina cut their 17-point lead early in the 3rd quarter to 5 points and momentum on their side. It's like DEJAVU just after 3 days. GEEZ!

We did a great job on Boston and on several of their other players. Without Destanni HENDERSON we would have won. I feel that's our Achilles heel - not just on offense and protecting/handling the ball; but also on defending the best quick PGs. Our first solution is Anna but she's having difficulty keeping up with them on offense and defense.

That third quarter was a disaster for the second game in a row. Both times, Tara took too long to call a timeout. And tonight she didn’t sub. Henderson was lights out on defense, but part of this loss is on decision making. I love Brink but tonight was not her night and it was terribly apparent. Prechtel and Belibi outplayed her by light years yet at important moments Tara went back to Brink. Really really bad decisions tonight both from players and coaches. This game could have went our way easily. Hopefully, they all learn from it.
That being said, I’m happy we showed we can compete. Prechtel had an amazing first half with 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Fran had 10 points in 10 minutes at the midpoint of the fourth. Both showed they want to be on the floor and produce.
Hopefully we start keeping the players on the floor that are producing that game. We have a ton of talent and I understand wanting to get a flow with starters. But if other players come in and push you ahead, they may just be the better matchup that evening.

For my money, Prechtel starts at least the next 5 games. Tip: with Brink’s long arms, she really doesn’t have to get very close to shooters to block the shot. Maybe she should play a little looser on D and use her athleticism to block shots.

Stanford is who we thought they were: an excellent overall team with great depth, but lacking the elite PG/ball handler who can calm the waters when opposing elite perimeter players decide to get in their jerseys. Coach needs to come up with a strategy to deal with these kind of games which are coming in March, and which will be Stanford's downfall if the situation is not addressed. And to be perfectly blunt, Lacie at PG is not the answer.
I love Prechtel more than most here, I suspect, and she did have several blocks and good rebounds in 1H. BUT, she also should have secured more rebounds than she did. Red gets knocked off her base/pushed under the hoop and generally put in unfavorable rebounding positions such that she is NOT getting all the rebounds she should. I'd bet good $$ that is what frustrates Tara most about Prechtel's game (but I'm sure she LOVES how Ashten extends the D and she is a pretty good passer, too). When a big gets in her jersey at the 3-point line, Prechtel needs to have a move to the hoop. Boston was not quicker than Ashten, and I would have loved to see Red try and drive by her when she was contesting up close at the 3 point line.
My predictions (actually a repeat of them): (i) Wilson will play more and more as season progresses, and (ii) Emma Nopu better get ready to play meaningful minutes in NCAAs (and thus, she needs to play in 1H of conference games against elite guards).
I liked Brink's demeanor on the court today, especially as compared to Tennessee game, and she did some nice things out there. But she also needs to be smart, and that shot she took with 16 seconds left was anything but.
As for Belibi, she should have an obscenely high shooting % when virtually all of her shots are from point blank range. Still, I liked her movement around the hoop, and of course her finishes.
Lexie played pretty well; same for Jones.
We just need to cut down on the low % shots, many of which were drives to the hoop and "shots" that looked more like efforts to get a whistle.
It would have been fun to win - and really headline-grabbing - but Stanford is right where we all thought they were. Coaches have weeks of practice and many games to be better prepared to address the style of play we saw in 2H today. I remain optimistic about this team's chances of a good, deep run in March Madness.

I thought going in we would lose and hoped it was at least close. I feel better going in pessimistic to these types of games. The result was ok, losing to the #1 team on their court in a nail biter is not a bad thing. Henderson coming back from injury for them was the key. If she was still out I think we roll them. She had a great game. I agree about the reffing. Hate to say it because all our turnovers, some where they literally plucked the ball out of someone's hands, was the real culprit, but the refs were bad all game and totally screwed us in the last couple of minutes. Jones was going to foul whoever it was, Littleton I think, but didn't really and Wilson had already got the ball poked out. Lexie went up and got a rebound off their missed FT and sure looked like she was bodied and shoved when she had two hands on the ball. That ended in a held ball that went SC's way. It sure looked to me that Boston was leaning heavily onto Belibi and basically pushed her into the lane on that play. Went to a board with fans from all teams and they, who have no horse in the race, saw it that way as well. Boston is great and apparently a wonderful person, but man, they let her get away with a lot in this one.
As for Brink, yeah, that last shot was not a good choice, and she had too many fouls and bad decisions. These two games were not her best. I'm sure she will bounce back. Henderson was our kryptonite. Our turnovers were not bad passes so much, but quick hands from her. A good lesson for the team.
I thought going in we would lose and hoped it was at least close. I feel better going in pessimistic to these types of games. The result was ok, losing to the #1 team on their court in a nail biter is not a bad thing. Henderson coming back from injury for them was the key. If she was still out I think we roll them. She had a great game. I agree about the reffing. Hate to say it because all our turnovers, some where they literally plucked the ball out of someone's hands, was the real culprit, but the refs were bad all game and totally screwed us in the last couple of minutes. Jones was going to foul whoever it was, Littleton I think, but didn't really and Wilson had already got the ball poked out. Lexie went up and got a rebound off their missed FT and sure looked like she was bodied and shoved when she had two hands on the ball. That ended in a held ball that went SC's way. It sure looked to me that Boston was leaning heavily onto Belibi and basically pushed her into the lane on that play. Went to a board with fans from all teams and they, who have no horse in the race, saw it that way as well. Boston is great and apparently a wonderful person, but man, they let her get away with a lot in this one.
As for Brink, yeah, that last shot was not a good choice, and she had too many fouls and bad decisions. These two games were not her best. I'm sure she will bounce back. I do think she may have been the victim of some poor reffing. Seemed like two of her fouls, or at least one, she had position on a box out and somehow got called for the foul anyway, like what was up with that? She "displaced" Boston? Don't think so.
Overall I don't think this loss hurts much. In fact, in the end it might be better to lose a close one, not have the target on the back, and use the close loss as fuel to improve. Belibi had a very good game. Lexie had a great first half and a pretty good game. Prechtel did a good job. Jump was fine. Jones was fine, though her rebounding numbers were low.
