1) The freshman that played on this years National Championship team are academically sophomores this upcoming year but will technically be considered freshman athletically and have four year of eligibility remaining?
2) Does the limit of 15 scholarships resume after the 2021 season?
3) How does this affect recruiting for the next four year? Very interesting
Someone please help clarify this for me. I thought I understood but the more I think about it the more confusing it becomes.
1. Correct, this past season's freshmen all still have 4 years of eligibility remaining.
2. The expectation right now is that after this upcoming season, the hard cap of 15 scholarships will go back into place so coaches will have to monitor that and be more selective in allowing seniors to come back for a 5th year. However, the NCAA has not made a ruling on this yet but that is the expectation.
3. It will definitely make recruiting more interesting, especially with the transfer portal becoming a much bigger thing now. Do you take a HS recruit or do you have one of your players come back for an extra year (assuming they want to)?
