Good.  He should be at First Base for awhile. But apparently they refuse to do that.  Catching is going to be harder on the thumb than hitting.  Why not wait another week and put him at first till then.  

Wade is beginning to leak a little. So is Duggar.  And against lefties Ruf can play left with Slater in Center. 

Casali is a good catcher and has begun to hit a bit.  So use him and let Buster get a bit more time for the thumb. While still getting his bat in the lineup.

Also, I fundamentally don't "get" why Analytics' "launch angle" and "only swing at pitches you can drive" can't be put on back burner when you FREAKING NEED TO SCORE THE RUNNER FROM THIRD WITH LESS THAN 2 OUTS and the D is "giving" you the run if you put it in play.  How does Farhan and Gabe's approach look when freaking Wilmer Flores looks at 3 and only 3 pitches in his AB for a K with runners on first and third and NO FREAKING outs.  Of course, the Giants fail to score.

It's so infuriating.  And WTF is up with Dickerson not tagging and going to third on Slater's deep drive to RF.  Didn't see it, but some post-game commenters said it was poor base-running (as was having Dickerson PH before the faster Duggar - both of whom walked).

On the bright side, Cueto pitched well for his 5 innings.  Hate to waste those outings from Johnny.

To date, SF has won 63% of their games (best in majors).  They had to be doing something right to achieve that record.  Good pitching, good defense and the three run homer (RIP, Earl Weaver….).  That is the modern day formula for success (Weaver was just ahead of his time).  

Obtain more pitching and get Posey, Longo, Belt and LaStella back on the field - that is all that is needed…

I think the real problem is that most of the players in major league baseball these days just aren't very good. Teams are looking for a winning formula that they can apply using "average" players. Most of the players don't have the skill set to enable situational hitting. They have been trained to do one thing, and that is it. Large organizations seem to prefer predictability over ability. Everybody becomes interchangeable. That way, identifying prospects and making player selections is much easier. The up side is limited, but so is the down side. Baseball has become totally corporate.

The problem with this model is that eventually it turns off the fans base. Baseball becomes "boring" and nobody watches it on TV, let alone going to the park. Right now, the leagues are trying to create some "star power", but it isn't going so well. It is hard to sell a bland product as entertainment. Hopefully this will eventually lead to some team having success by actually having good players who can hit both for power and average, and a manager who will hit and run.  Not going to happen soon I'm afraid.

When you don't have a closer - certainly not a lights out one - as is true with the Giants, then you go with the hot pitcher (if there is one).  Garcia has been great lately and did very well again last night.  If you're worried about extending him . . . I guess I get that (and he was PH for, which is a separate decision/reason to remove).  BUT, McKee pitched the 8th - 1, 2, 3 on 6 freaking pitches.  Why not let him go back out for the ninth?  [He wasn't PH for in T9].  And then I heard on post-game that Casali relayed that Rogers was off a bit in the bully warming up . . . and yet they still trot Rogers out there?  It's those kind of dumbass decisions - ones where you go knee-jerk formula instead of watching the game and letting what your eyes tell you to help make decisions - that drive me crazy as a fan (same thing with pulling Ruf the other night after a BB and a dinger because of the formulaic need for righty-lefty matchup).  

One other thing:  Dodgers get runner on second with 0 outs and (a) advance him to third on deep fly, and then (b) get him home with grounder up the middle (that only went for a hit because Giants had infield in).  Giants get runner on 2nd with 0 outs and don't even advance him.  (Or not until there are two outs).

Up 6-1 in fifth; lose 8-6 on a zero-out, 3-run dinger in the ninth.  Ouch!  That one stings.

P.S. Anyone else think Tauchman could have/should have caught Taylor's first double? It hit at base of CF wall . . .

I thought he should have at least tried for it.  He'll be cut soon, the Tauchman era, his 15 minutes of fame are at the 14:55 mark.

Good game last night, Yaz has 4 HRs since the all star break, Flores another nice HR, and Webb is looking really strong.

Giants are first to 60 wins, best record in MLB, 2 game lead over the Dodgers with whom they have already won two of four games on the road with the last game tonight at 7:10. SFG is 4th in MLB in OPS, 2nd in ERA.

Feels pretty darned good.
