If you ain't cheating you ain't trying

I don't understand this sentence at the end of the story.
The story is about NCAA sanctions, not self imposed retroactive proscriptions.
Quote:The university banned the head coach from recruiting for the first 10 days of the January 2020 contact period, and a 30-day off-campus recruiting ban for the head coach during the fall 2019 evaluation period.
The story is about NCAA sanctions, not self imposed retroactive proscriptions.
Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip.

"If you ain't cheating you ain't trying."
My high school football coach used to say "It's only cheating if you get caught." He later became an assistant superintendent for one of the largest public school districts in the SF Bay Area. Perhaps not the message you want to send to students.

My goodness. What a great role model.

That could appropriately be painted on the wall in the USC football locker room, along with "You gotta play dirty to win."
Not just their football locker room. How about in their President's office and in the meeting room of their Board of Trustees?
USC pays UCSD $50 million and apologizes
Best quote is the end of the article:
> The apology, while well-written, isn't enough, said Oates, who specializes in crisis communications. One problem is that it came as part of a legal setttlement, and after repeated scandals.
"It draws into question whether you really mean it." Oates said. "Talk becomes very cheap, particularly for this university, where it seems to happen over and over and over again."

"Cheat On!"
"Pete the Cheat."
Their former president, their former Dean of the Medical School!
$C is the spoiled poster child for "Lack of Institutional Control."
From my standpoint, they should have received the death penalty from the NCAA a long time ago. They are a disgrace to the conference and to the term "student athlete." Cheat on.

It gets better. He was well known for having different sets of rules for different types of students, clearly favoring football players over other students. He had interpersonal issues with teachers and administrators as well. My sister (Stanford PhD) worked with him for a time as did a close family friend who taught AP English in the district. His last name is quite similar to that of a Star Wars villain, so naturally, his nickname became that of said villain among the other teachers and administrators in the district.
