Just saw that. Glad NCAA is doing something right.
I'm wondering how big Stanford's athletic department endowment is now. It was about 500 million 7 years ago. You would think it was in the 750 million range prior to the recent downturn. You would think they could run the department at a low level through the year if needed.

Pretty crappy of some schools to drop a sport using the virus closures as an excuse. I would hope that the student comes first and holding on to vast reserves last but we’re not dealing with saints in college administration.

Except there are no vast reserves here.
Note that the requests come from the Group of Five conferences and other lower level conferences. Not from any Power 5 conference. Every one of the schools involved already lose money on their competitive sports programs, most lose a lot.
Now probably they are not talking about dropping football, where they lose the most money - but they are facing serious trouble.
Almost every university in the country will be cutting tons of stuff in the next few years. The issue isn't whether they put students first, its whether they put student athletics above everything else they do.

As an athletic department tutor, I'm adopting the following slogan:
"We will not balance the Athletic Department Budget on the backs of the tutors."
