I don't know much about collegiate golf scheduling, but given what I know about climate change effects in 2019 coupled with the propensity for wild and sudden storms in the lower midwest as soon as the temps start hitting the 70s, it seems like folly to assume you could get through nearly two weeks of play and practice in late May without at least one day lost to inclimate weather. Am I missing something here?

The committee does have an option that they had to use in 2017 at Rich Harvest Farms in the Chicago area. They cancelled one day of medal play for the women because they were too far behind from weather delays to catch up. The low 8 teams after 54 holes advanced to match play.

As with other sports, the schedule for the golf championships is dictated by tv. Starting in 2015, the Golf Channel has televised the men's and women's final rounds of stroke play and the 3 match play rounds. These are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday because the Golf Channel is already committed to airing pro events Thursday-Sunday.

Risk of weather delays should be lessened for the next 3 years. The men's and women's championships will be held at Grayhawk GC, a public course in Scottsdale, AZ.

The committee has decided to shorten the stroke play portion of the tournament from 72 to 54 holes. Round 2 will continue tomorrow at 10 am central. Players on the course will pick up where they left off.  The teams in the 2nd wave will start their play at the 1st and 10th tees at 10 am as well.

Purdue, UCLA, Washington and Ole Miss are lurking 1-3 shots back of us, so we have to hope they fall back further (likely). We know we'll start with just a 4-shot cushion over Auburn and Wake Forest. We are going to have to play well tomorrow (hopefully not too well).

The one thing that concerns me is that we had the worst day 2 of all the teams in the top ten: every team's collective score was above 300 for day one, but every team but us was below 300 on day two. One more day with similar results and we'll be out, so we need to play comparatively better tomorrow than today vis-a-vis everyone else.

I think it was a disadvantage for us relative to some of the other teams in the top 10 to have to come back this morning to play just the last 3-5 holes, under vastly different conditions from the day before, such as green speeds. For example, we played holes 16-18 in +5 this morning, while Purdue, Northwestern, and Ole Miss each played them at even par at the end of their rounds today. Had we done the same, we'd have had a similar round 2 score as all but the top 2 teams. Hopefully the teams will all be competing under the same conditions tomorrow.

Round 2 average scores were 3.7 shots lower per player than round 1. Stanford only posted 1 shot lower per player so they definitely gave up shots to the field. Last year in a similar position, Andrea Lee went out and shot a tournament low 65 to help Stanford qualify (though not comfortably as both Liu and Valenzuela shot 77). Stanford really needs its best round of the tournament to advance.

Valenzuela is Stanford's low individual, 5 shots back in 6th place. Golf Channel will balance that with the race for the top 8.
