Quote:If it hadn’t been for the NCAA’s new rule this year that football players can redshirt as long as they don’t play a fifth game, Stanford freshmen such as Andres Fox and Simi Fehoko wouldn’t be playing in Saturday’s Big Game in Berkeley.
In fact, they probably wouldn’t have played at all this year.
Instead, Fox increasingly filled in at defensive end and became such a good pass rusher that he and the coaches agreed to burn his redshirt year when he played game No. 5 last week against UCLA. Fehoko, a wide receiver who has played two games, can play in both the Big Game and a bowl game and keep his redshirt status. That is, he’ll still have four years of eligibility remaining.
