My quick read of the stats: it looks to me the most obvious path to improvement is changing field goals to touchdowns. (I mean, yes, that's always advisable, but it looks like a relative weakness in this specific instance.)

Was surprised the defense ranked lower than the offense. I'm more sanguine about the offense than most Stanford fans, but I wouldn't've predicted this.

Hey WIM.  Nice to see your name back on board.

I think what is missing here is SOS.  A lot of those teams at the top play multiple cupcakes.  It's easy to load up on points per drive when you're playing South Alabama State.

I'd love to see the rankings against power 5 schools and/or ranked opponents.

If Bonagura is posting this, presumably ESPN is keeping per drive stats. I haven't seen those publicly available. 

However, there are a ton of interesting per drive stats available at Brian Fremeau's site (Fremeau of FEI):
www.bcftoys.com 

While there are a few issues, overall it is one of my favorite college football stat sites. 
This seemed a place to plug it.

That's mostly because of the detailed time frame used. 
This was 2014-18 (so mostly 2014-17). 
Stanford's really great defense run was 2010-2014 (with a little dip in 2011). 
Stanford had a great offense in 2015 and pretty good last year.

EDIT - maybe that needs some more thought. 
According to bcftoys, Stanford's year by year offense and defense points per drive ranks were:

2014       #50           #8
2015        #2          #48
2016       #62         #16
2017       #18         #60

Pretty close. But so were the 4+ year averages from Bonagura of #23 and #25
