Uphill sledding at this point. We keep waiting but 5 over .500 is the best it's been. Meanwhile, Dodgers scored 3 touchdowns tonight.
The Giants have as much chance to surpass the Dodgers as I do to become governor. The Dodgers lineup yesterday had 6 hitters with more HRs than anyone on the Giants. A 7th, Puig ended the day hitting his 14th. Which ties Belt, the Giants HR leader. The 8th was Justin Turner. A very good hitter who has been hurt. They have a superior starting pitching staff - even tho banged up. They will win the Division going away.
The Dodgers have had some real luck – Turner, Taylor, Muncey were in the case of the first two journeyman in the case of the third not even a major-league level player. They’ve all gone nuts for the Dodgers. Something in the water down there – or just a very good team doctor.
But where that organization has excelled is in stock piling minor-league talent. Which has enabled them to make big time deadline trades to pick up people like Machado and Dozier. They will sign Manny by the way. He is LA through and through. Wearing number eight because he’s a big Kobe Bryant fan. So they then have both him and Seeger. To go along with everything else.
It’s beginning to look like the bad ole days in the 70s when the Dodgers dominated the Giants I hated those Garvey lopes Russell Cey teams with a passion. In part because they beat the Giants like a drum. My guess is it’ll be at least five years before the Giants get them selves to the point where they will be able to compete with the Dodgers. Depressing.
As for the WC. Too many teams ahead of them. And those teams are all friends with the possible exception of Pittsburgh) better.
At least the Giants have been entertaining (albeit frustrating) this year. Last year was unwatchable

How about a waiver deal, Strickland for Harper? Maybe they each can change planes at O’Hare and have a fight in a bar.
Big time mistake not trading Bum. Not the same guy anymore. Now they HAVE to pay big bucks in the winter for a starter and an RBI guy. Dodgers not quite Snider, Campy, Furillo, Hodges, Cox, Reese, Erskine, Newcombe and the Preacher but getting close.
I’m still at heart a Seals fan. Where is Ted Beard when we need him?

Teddy Beard my all time favorite Seal gone for several years now.
Trivia. Who had the lowest ERA on the Giants.

Slater at 1B tonight. He's 2 for 4, and finally getting some ABs. AZ doesn't have a very good book on him -- he's 7 for 11 off them this year so far. But ugh, that's it for the good news.
Panda down for the season yesterday and now Posey appears to have been concussed again.
And don't look now but Oakland could move into the wild card spot if they can win tonight.

Not all that bummed about Posey on the bench. I like Hundley. Posey's OPS is .782, but Hundley's is .759 and he's a lot fresher. Their fielding statistics aren't remarkably different. And Longoria's season OPS is the same as Sandoval's at this point, but his batting average of his last 15 games is WAY higher than Sandoval's. So I don't mind those two going down, honestly.
I think we need to get rid of McCutchen. Stanford's own Austin Slater has an OPS of .959 for his last 15 games, McCutchen's is .705. Trade him. Find a starter.

The big problem is if Posey goes on the DL they only have one other C on the 40-man roster, Aramis Ramirez, who is at Double-A. They will miss Panda’s versatility since he could also fill in at 1B and emergency C.
Bochy said yesterday he thinks D’arnaud might be an emergency C — based on the fact that his brother was an MLB catcher. Ho-o-okay....

Bring up Joey Bart. 9 HRs in 116 ABs, 1.030 OPS. And he's a new age guy -- 26 strikeouts.... 2nd overall pick in the draft. thrown out 8 of 26 runners, 31%.

If someone wanted McCutchon they would have traded him. Not too late of course but it always takes two to tangle
Maybe Bart is a good idea. But depends so much on his personality. 2 for 31 or so could really hurt him mentally
Posey could be out for the year ya know

No one says anything about Stratton? In the middle of the Giants quasi last gasp and they bring up Stratton who
gives up 5 in the first inning. Kewk and Kuyk keep talking about getting ruins to give
Stratton confidence. He needs an arm not confidence.

I think with Cueto and Shark out, they were looking to see if Stratton could fill out the rotation after Bum, Rodgriguez and Suarez. Maybe Blach will be the next try.
The rosters open up on Sept 1 -- we'll see the AAAA players soon enough. Until then, I think they'll continue to believe they can make a run with the vets. When they end August 7-8 GB, they'll figure it out.

Latest on Posey is he could play tomorrow.
The PCL of the 50s long gone QWERTY. It’s only AAA now lol
Not much in Sacramento but Law and Pierce Johnson called up Stratton sent down
Maybe new to SJ St Francis grad John Gavin will help. 2:08 ERA at Low A Augusta
