I see most everyone is having the same issue: an avatar pic that worked just fine with the old software is either horizontally or vertically challenged with the new. What to do?

my old one was compressed horizontally. I uploaded a new one and it appears to display correctly.

My midsection is compressed horizontally. Is there software to correct it or shall I add additional sit-ups?

From the info for updating your avatar:
If your avatar is distorterd, it is probably because you uploaded (or linked) an image that was not square; the software then resized it to be 110 x 110 pixels. Your best bet if you want the avatar to remain undistorted, you should make sure that the avatar is cropped into a square before uploading. Ideally, it would also be scaled to 110 x 110 pixels so that you are happy with the scaling before updating.

It looks to me as if the avatar will adapt to the dimensions you provide. I uploaded a 4X3 photo and it's displaying correctly. LSJU's avatar isn't square, either.

The new board software was distorting my old avatar. I just went back and uploaded the same photo. It now appears properly. The original dimensions have been preserved, even though the picture is not square.

Dumb question but...how does one change the user name/display name? I'm haunted by my original decision to have my log-in name be distinct from my display name.

I don't think you can, at least BobbK could not, maybe one of the admins can change them

OK, they can PM me or stupac to 2006alum — we have two other new mods, but they haven't said they actually want to help moderate. I'd actually like stupac or 200alum to do it just to get accustomed to the mod features.
