It\'s always an image-control question, but the Band is a great ambassador for the "Stanford sports are fun times" perception. Clearly, LSJUMB counters the stodgy, country-club image ... unfortunately, there\'s no way to limit just how far that counter-image goes ...

If the lockout takes place, Stanford really should do a multimedia campaign -- you wanna see football, we\'ve got it, including a bunch of guys you\'ll see on Sundays if the NFL ever starts playing again. I hope somebody at Stanford is really thinking about that now, so it will be ready to roll if the time comes.

Trust me. Those of use who work in the sports industries are thinking about everything we can to fill up airtime and column inches that will be left in the NFL void. College football certainly - but the Rugby World Cup is this fall also (and no, ESPN does not have broadcast rights. But I\'ll watch anyway.)

I wouldn\'t be shocked if some college games moved to Sundays, for example.

Promote “the walk”.  I’ll bet the large majority of regular fans don’t even know about it, or at least don’t know when it is and that it gives a chance to see the players up close in street clothes.

The setting for tailgating outside Stanford stadium under the trees is very special.   Promote it.

I am part of a long term tailgating group in lot 10 who arrive 3 to 6 hours  before the game.  I have no problem paying for parking, but would have some of that parking money go to the following:

-      keep the rustic feel, but fill in the worst of the holes and keep the lots free of large branches.  Continue to do so through the season, especially before night games
-      Keep the parking spaces a bit chaotic – that’s part of the charm – but maybe have some well-marked pedestrian lanes that have good lighting
-      Signage to make it easy to tell people where to find a tailgater or their own car after a game.  Telling someone “near gate 10 about halfway to El Camino” leaves a lot of room for improvement.

Have student groups for fundraising sell burgers, sodas and such at various spots dotted around the stadium (a la Notre Dame).  Adds atmosphere and a chance to mix with students a little.

Beer inside the stadium not likely to happen, but one or two additional small beer gardens outside the stadium would be nice in addition to the official tailgater.  People tend to stay on the same side of the stadium where they park.
