I found the following article to be interesting, partly for what it says about WSU,  partly because it reminds me of some of the discussion on this board, and partly because what it says about Stanford's team. I think it is worth reading, and perhaps a bit instructive  :). Also interesting that Tyler Hilinski also wears #3.

It’s time to get Hilinski more reps, especially since it was pretty clear Saturday that he isn’t afraid to throw down the field, and he trusts his receivers. What exactly happened to him? Did - of all teams - DABEARS rattle him so much he lost his confidence? What is this, 2004?

Nope. He has been having problems from the get-go this year. If you believe the article, he never improved from 2015. Not sure I buy that. My read is that the Air Raid risk-reward curve can be hard for any QB to deal with. When things are going well, everything you throw is caught (even if not for a ton of yards). When things don't go well, you get intercepted and take the blame. The difference between those two cases may be difficult to recognize as you take your 3 step drop. Not being analytical and remaining a "gunslinger" may be what is required. Falk now thinks too much according to Leach. We see the same with Chryst sometimes, but on a longer time scale.

Well, Leach would say that if you do it right you don't get sacked. However, since he recommend not thinking too much, I think your statement may be the correct conclusion  :).

Well, one thing that happened to him is that he has always been overhyped. That's mostly because people confuse volume with quality.
It's not that he's been bad, just that he's not been "one of the best QBs in college football".

By my eye, he doesn't have a strong arm, doesn't have good pocket presence, and doesn't have enough athleticism to make a play when it's not there. But, he's accurate on short routes, tough, and doesn't usually do stupid things.

He also hasn't improved.
2014  PER = 140.4
2015  PER = 145.9
2016  PER = 145.6
2017  PER = 144.8

Those aren't terrible numbers, but only good. Nationally that ranks  #43,32,30,33.

That is what I would expect from most coaches. However, Leach seems to be quite capable of deciding Falk has "lost it" and going all in on #3. I give this a better than 40% chance. It may depend a lot on how Falk reacted to being benched.
