Chryst played better than I expected him to, but I think Costello got a bit hosed by a couple drops that would've made him the clear winner. At any rate if Chryst can keep up that level of play going forward I think we'll be fine, though barring a defensive/Love miracle we'll lose to at least two of UW/WSU/ND.

Yeah, I actually think most of the offensive coaching was...impressive today. Given the lack of Arcega-Whiteside I anticipated a weak passing game with a problematic receiving corps. But they were able to engineer a pretty strong offensive game with nearly 7 yards per play -- by far Utah's worst defensive effort by that metric.

Arcega-Whiteside absence really seemed to hurt.  Did Stanford even try to split out Parkinson and threaten to throw the fade?  Chryst failed to see a clearly open Irwin in the right corner of the end zone on the 1st drive because he had already locked on Kaden Smith.

What bothered me was the continued jujitsu in the second half. I expected Shaw to pick one at halftime and stick with him for the second half.

Well, that needs to be taken with a brobdingnagian grain of salt.  Costello only had what, two series?  Whatever it was, he didn't have nearly the number of opportunities Chryst had.  Chryst was 50% completions.  This is who he is.  Costello was 60% completions.  This is who he is.  When you consider Costello also runs better, how does it not make more sense to give Costello more opportunities given he so clearly has more upside.

I'm pretty sure Bryce Love set a single game rushing record with Costello at QB, so the pre-snap read stuff is a bit overblown, IMO.

I was at the game.  Tough win in a hostile visiting-team environment.  There seemed to be a palpable increase in offensive energy when KJ was at QB versus Chryst.  He's more athletic (avoiding that sac on first pass) and throws a consistently better ball.  The players seem to sense that.  Maybe there is a character issue that we don't know about. Or maybe Shaw is just stubborn.  I think we need to figure this out prior to that two-week UW/Wazoo buzz-saw coming. KJ has much higher ceiling and that Shaw refusal to play him is hindering his (and the team's) progress.

Let me suggest you saw  what you wanted to. Not what actually happened Sat night.  Agree KJ has higher upside. But KC played well. He was accurate all night. Hit big third down passes. Did a nice job with read option. No mistakes. Didn't get sacked. Heck of a game. Against a good defense
