While it may be true that ND won't let the band play, I don't think Stanford was willing to send the band to South Bend in the first place. The band did not make the road trip to UCLA or UW either. The one worrisome thing to me is that we had Love in at tailback, and I think he has never carried the ball on one of those straight ahead blast shots. That could be a tipoff.

But, Scarlett and Love is not our standard personnel for that sort of play - lately it's been Scarlett and whomever is playing FB. That could have been a tip-off.

I don't think that's it. The Potato Famine skit was from 1997 and the school-announced ban was set to go through 2000.

Also, the band's statement was a nice way of hoisting ND objectors on their own petard:

The statement said that the concept behind the show was not to insult Irish people but to ridicule Notre Dame's leprechaun mascot, which the band called racist. "We think it absurd that Notre Dame can claim a whole ethnicity as its mascot, and further characterize this ethnicity as belligerent: the Fighting Irish," the statement read. "Further, to represent the Irish, Notre Dame uses a leprechaun. Most Irish people we know are not, in fact, leprechauns."

I'm just guessing from my own experience, but I believe the reason they didn't got to UCLA was because it was too early in the season (no frosh yet in band), and UW is the furthest away. The band only has the funds for one "full band" road trip each year (and it is a road trip, not on a plane, so it can't be too far away).  Typically if the LA road trip is not conducive schedule wise, the band goes to Oregon (never happened when I was in school, but I think they went to OSU a few years ago). I expect they'll be at Oregon in a few weeks. Unless there is a travel ban going on, but I'm not aware of one, would need to talk to a more recent grad for info on that.

Occasionally a small band will go to a preseason game, basically on their own dimes (when I was in school this happened for Navy and TCU). But the band doesn't go to Notre Dame because no one will pay for it, and who wants to go to South Bend? If you'd like to see them go someday, I'm sure the band would take your donations to make the trip :)

JJJ has it right.  The band is currently banned from traveling.  The Rose Bowl was an exception, thankfully!    They were not allowed to go to UCLA, UW or ND.  That being said, I'm hopeful, as is my son, that they can play at Big Game.  The deeds were done mostly by students that are no longer at Stanford.

As for the "Fighting Irish,"  if they still have an issue with that olde skit, let them eat potatoes!  I think the bands response was appropriate and funny.  If you live in this country, you are highly likely to be from immigrant stock, so people shouldn't take themselves too seriously.  If they do, let the LSJUMB have fun with them.  Lennay Kekua, White Bronco chase, Ah, these Irish, are all memorable and quite funny.  Given that the scripts are now "blessed" by the AD, the opportunity to get edgy is much tougher than it once was. 

If you want a traditional marching band, go to UCB, Iowa or USC.  Nice formations, but rather boring, imho.  Let's see what Rice's scatter band brings to the party.
