50%!!!
Wow! Â There is no way, absolutely no way that there were ~3,650 fans in the stands. Â I would bet a lot of money on that under. Â The student section was not even 50% full, well not before the AD got all of those families from the upper sections to move to fill in the empty areas.
Seattle was OK. Â The game was close at half and that was made possible by an unbelievable number of bad turnovers by Stanford.
In the second half Stanford cleaned that up and built a nice little lead. Â But it was never big enough to run away completely. Â So the end of the game turned into one of those grinding foul fests.
It was mildly entertaining though. Â The Seattle coach was trying hard to tell the kids to foul Mann. Â In most games the point guard is the last guy to foul, so you could see the players were struggling to comprehend the instructions.
When Mann got the ball you could hear the Seattle coach yell to foul that guy. Â It was funny. Â The players would keep looking back at the bench with those "Are you sure?" type looks.
At one point Green got the ball. The coach was worried that the foul the guard strategy might be incorrectly applied. Â So the coach screamed "Don\'t Foul Him". Â But the guys missed the N\'T part and quickly fouled Green. Â The whistle blew and then in a super quiet Maples you could hear the coach say, "I said DON\'T foul him". Â It was funny and entertaining in a way that can only happen at a slow, meaningless game.
