I believe you're talking about the timeout in which the clock was set to 2:13. The end of the play (out of bounds, but clock still running because forward progress was in bounds) had been at 2:34. As of 2:31, Shaw wasn't signalling. The TV video shows Shaw signalling for a time out at 2:28.  My guess is that he thought the time out was given and it took 10 seconds to realize it hadn't been, but that is only a guess.

And it turns out that running that time off the clock was helpful, UCLA has a much better shot if we kick off with 40 seconds left (though we probably try to run more time off the clock if we get to the 6 with that much time).

I guess Shaw was "saving" McCaffrey on 4th and inches so he could come through with the first down on the final drive!? We can still second-guess in the moment though! :P

Yes, I saw at least 3 helmet to helmet hits. In one, the defender almost knocked himself out and had to be pulled.

Really? I like beating the shit out of them more than any other team (except maybe Kal). The 2009 $C game remains my favorite of the Harb/Shaw era (although the Rose Bow last year comes close, as did the Pac-12 championship).

John Platz asked Shaw about the punt in the post game interview. Shaw said that he was actually arguing with his wife about it recently because it's come up a couple times. He said you do it everytime and play defense because you never give up field position.

Irwin has always been there ready to make plays. He just needs more balls thrown to him. A-W showed what he can do and I expect he will be used more often in the future.
