I so agree, Garvin. There are of course a number of players who were as effective as Candice, but there was something about her grace and the way she moved and played that made her such a pleasure to watch. I remember her smile and tears after we beat Maryland as if it were yesterday.

Thanks for posting all of these - a lot of great memories. Candice was really what got me into Stanford Women's Basketball just about a decade ago with the season that ended with the shock defeat to FSU at home and the quest for redemption the following year. She embodies everything great about Stanford student athletes, and has been an incredibly emissary for the university. Thanks for everything, Candice!

A Stanford game was a joyous 40 minutes of basketball during the Wiggins era.
Candice's obvious enthusiasm was truly infectious - it spread throughout the team. It's the nature of Type A athletes to play with intensity, concentration, discipline and, for lack of a better word, SERIOUSNESS. Women's basketball in particular can be prone to making a fun game look so darn much like hard work. Sometimes I leave games wondering if fear of making mistakes and not measuring up to their own (and Tara's) high standards take away from the team's joy in the game and, perhaps, their on court improvisation and creativity?Â
Whatever the answer this wasn't a problem during the Wiggins years (except perhaps that @#$!@ FSU game). As far as a fan in the stands could tell the team played loosely and fluidly and with obvious JOY. When Wiggins handled the ball, playing basketball at Stanford was a rollicking good time even in the pressure filled Tennessee ACE vs ICE match-ups. (CandACE Parker vs CandICE Wiggins used those nicknames for each other).
To this fan, it seemed that Candice didn't just make everyone on Stanford's team better - she made the game fun again.

In 1938 Neville Chamberlain declared "Peace in our time", Superman first appeared in Action Comics, Seabiscuit beat War Admiral ....... and C.a.l last won the Rose Bowl.
