Why do Stanford fans assume that when players decommit it's because of academics? Stanford has had the same academic standards in place for football for at least seven years now. Why do fans assume that players all want to play for Stanford? Isn't that snobby? Stanford doesn't use boxes.  Other than that sure some to most would make it fine.  Some who come in will struggle.  I think we all know that.

To be fair, I also feel like this year we've had more early commits than in past years. Usually we got at least a handful of fresh commits right at signing day just to get us to 18-19 players, whereas this year we had a lot of earlier commits (and so nowhere to go but down?). Mostly just wondering if guys are a little too confident and committing before they know they have the chops to survive admissions, if our coaches are miscommunicating something to them, or if admissions and the coaches aren't on the same page this year. I was honestly surprised we got up to 19 commits as quickly as we did, considering past precedent of many waiting to commit until post-admissions status.

There is so much subjective judgment involved. And some majors are much harder than others, even at the same university.

Like I stated above, this year we experienced more early commitments; at one point we were ranked the #3 recruiting class in the nation. Most years, players would wait until they were admitted or were very confident they would be admitted before announcing their commitment. In order to compare to previous years, one would have to consider all those who would have committed had they received good news. Ross Donelly and Anree Saint-Amour both come to mind from last year. Arrington Farrar was an admission ding.

It isn't snobby; we are using the words of the players and parents, who call Stanford their number one Dream School--for what now must be the seventh consecutive year.  It's an incredible school and place that also has the nation's #3 oe #4 team this year, a climate like Provence and Tuscany, access to the beaches and a great American city. 

And a kid commits, says he was blown away, and then changes his mind just after admissions returns from break and sends out the news.  Some circumstantial evidence counts more than others; in this case, there's a trout in the milk.  There's a logical explanation. ., .

I don't think we should ever publicly say that admissions dinged a recruit.  We at least owe it to the kid and his/her family (in the case of women's sports) to avoid insinuating academic inferiority--after all, they did consider Stanford, and they likely wanted to come, right?  You have to think that these 18-year olds tried their hardest--the coaching staff works with the families to help them understand what it's going to take to get in, and the coaching staff wouldn't spend so much time on recruits who didn't have the right stuff.  Sometimes admissions is cruel.
