I think the problem here is that most people around the country who know about the Stanford band only know that they're crazy. I doubt they know about the narrations and the formations. Fans in Pac-12 stadiums know what's coming and generally let things roll off their backs -- unless the band is offering commentary on endangered owls. As some have said, this show was pretty mild. (We had a fun conversation with the folks sitting behind us, wondering what might happen when we play BYU in a few years.)
Anyway, when people are exposed to the band for the first time, it doesn't usually go well. Remember, we heard these same complaints after each of the last two Rose Bowls.
