Who knows. It's impossible to say if that mattered at all. I don't know why a ref would react more to an AD yelling at them than they would a coach, they both have the same power to do anything to the ref: zero.

In most sports the number of non-players that can "discuss" prior calls with the referee is limited to a precious few. I simply can't believe the ADs, Chancellors, Presidents, Board of Regents, or top donors should be in that category. The NCAA needs to get on this because the same thing happened with Vanderbilt. During that game when they had the Anchor Down instead of player names, so some guy came in with a recent printout of an e-mail in an attempt to overturn the decision. That e-mail was ultimately used to overturn the ruling. In the e-mail Vanderbilt had approval to wear the uniform, but that approval did not include the use "Anchor Down".
If the NCAA does not create and/or enforce that rule I can imagine a world where at each television time out various donors, ADs, presidents, and/or former players will demand their 30-45 seconds with the referees to explain why in their opinion the ref is making too many mistakes.
