Given the Times's track record of spotting stupid trends -- http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/06/fashio...ssory.html -- I'm very worried this is actually some sort of reverse indicator.

Relax.  This isn't a trend.  Stanford supplanted Harvard as the best university in the world a long time ago.  The rest of the world is just figuring it out now. 

I have found that for subjects that I know well:  The Times and The Journal are late to the party or get the story wrong in an important but unobvious way.  What's scary is that most business people get their understanding of industries other than their own from The Journal.
