QB notwithstanding, last year's team looked better in many ways. The one big advantage that last year had over this years team was two receivers, C.J. Williams and Sam Roush. Roush had some problems catching the ball, but he was quite effective lots of the time. Williams was the "go to" receiver. We don't appear to have any receivers that are that talented. That makes an immense difference in results. The announcers repeatedly pointed out the number of dropped balls in this last game. We already know about that problem from the first two games. IMO that is the one big difference. Last year's best running back was Ford, when he was not injured. He is certainly our best back this year. The offensive line was not good last year and often seemed to be disorganized and confused. This year's line doesn't look confused or disorganized (at least so far). They just aren't good enough physically.
IMO this offense looks better coached than last year's. It has a better QB with worse receivers. It has a line that isn't better. The end result is an offense that can't reliably move the ball. That is a recipe for disaster against "good" teams. We don't play enough "bad" teams this year to get 4 wins, unless Kal implodes again.
