A more thorough investigation into the variants of the quote and various attributions can be found here.  As I read it, it seems clearly Danish in origin, dating from at least 1937.  Niels Bohr (1885-1962;  received Nobel Prize in 1922) was Danish, but that might only mean he repeated what he had heard.
