Here's some useless trivia for you.  My great-uncle Charles August Mann was a past Wisconsin band director.  You can see him in the picture on this page: http://www.badgerband.com/history/earlyYears.php

Here's an article about him taking the Wisconsin band on a trip to San Francisco in 1915: http://www.uwalumni.com/home/chaptersand..._1915.aspx. (The 1869 in the article is an error. Mann was born in 1886, received his B.S. from Wisconsin in 1909, and was a grad student there while he directed the band. He received his PhD from Wisconsin in 1915 and eventually went on to head the Chemical Engineering department at the University of Minnesota.)
