The walk on status seems likely. I can't believe we couldn't have found a better player or two if we were offering scholarships, but strange things happen. There is also the strength of our lineup. Anyone coming in on scholarship would probably want a chance to play, but cracking the top 5 next year will be very hard. We could also cache a player or two at some other school and portal them in down the line, such an approach is most likely very unethical but I am sure there are places that would think like that. The new system makes all kinds of nefarious approaches seem rational.
Women's golf can carry 6.5 scholarships. With Sturdza's graduation, we have seven elite-level players in. this fall's class--the five current starters plus Sundberg and Chien.
And Nikki Oh and Jude Lee, the second and third highest ranked American players in the 2026 entering class, arrive next fall--essentially replaciing Ganne and Xu.
Coach Walker appears to favor large teams. The 2021 team, a vivid example, comprised ten players. Only seven ever played, one of them, Calista Reyes, a Rolex Junior All American.
